Over the past 14 years, Music in the Park has been a much-anticipated event to welcome summer in the Cuyuna Lakes area with great music, food, and activities for all ages to enjoy. Join us for the “Kickoff to Summer,” sponsored by the Cuyuna Lakes Chamber and Crosby-Ironton Schools on Thursday, June 10, from 5-8 p.m. at Crosby Memorial Park.
Complimentary old-fashioned hotdogs and brats donated by Emily Meats Ol’ Fashioned Meat Market, along with chips, water, cookies, and ice cream sundaes will be served in the cook shack. Visit the Chamber’s booth for a free Music in the Park t-shirt, or the Lakes Proud Booth for some swag, while supplies last.
There will be plenty of activities for children of all ages, including a variety of games and prizes, a watermelon eating contest, giant bubbles and more! Bring lawn chairs and blankets, sit back, and enjoy the event. Crosby Memorial Park also offers RV and tent campsites (reservations at www.cityofcrosby.com), boat access, picnic shelters, a large playground, giant serpent statue, WWII tank, skate park, softball field and a basketball court.
Musicians Christian McShane and Amanda Standalone will provide live entertainment until 8 p.m. Christian McShane has performed music around the world and currently calls Aitkin his home. He has recorded and/or performed with Charlie Parr, Alan Sparhawk, Haley Bonar, Paul Metzger, Mary Bue, and has shared the stage with the likes of Trampled by Turtles, Low, Pedro the Lion, Cloud Cult, and Whisper in the Noise, has scored music for 22 independent films and recorded seven full-length albums.
Amanda Standalone is a writer, folk musician, and multi-instrumentalist from Minnesota. Standalone has released two albums, Millions of Blackbirds (2010), and Trouble (2014), funded in part by a grant from the Lakes Region Arts Council and a successful indie go-go campaign. Her music is a soulful blend of acoustic folk/blues strongly influenced by American Roots music. She skillfully attacks the guitar, banjo, and her single stringed washtub, while packing an extra punch with her rich vocals. Currently, Standalone is working on her third album 'Ghost Stories' with grant support from the 5 Wings Arts Council.
The Cuyuna Lakes Chamber of Commerce holds Music in the Park on the second and fourth Thursday evenings through the summer. For more information, visit www.cuyunalakes.com or call 218-546-8131.
